A motorcycle accident on Easter Sunday left the male driver injured and killed his wife in Montgomery County.
The couple was heading north on Interstate 69 just past Roman Forest Drive when the rear tire of his 2007 Yamaha motorcycle separated, causing the man to lose control and crash, authorities said.
Tire parts were found just over 300 yards away. An off-duty paramedic was on the scene and started life-saving efforts.
The 45-year-old female from Rusk, a city nearly three hours north of Houston, died at the scene. Her husband was taken in stable condition to Kingwood Hospital. Neither were wearing helmets.
The accident occurred around 6 p.m. and the freeway was closed for almost two hours as DPS investigated.
Roman Forest, Montgomery County Sheriff, Patton Village, and Splendora assisted with traffic control as did TxDOT. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office is also assisting in the investigation.
The driver of the motorcycle had no insurance, expired registration, and a suspended driver’s license.
Montgomery County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack responded to the scene for the inquest and ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to take the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for an autopsy.
