Woman Struck by SUV After Getting Out of Uber Vehicle in San Diego – California Injury Blog

A woman suffered a leg fracture when she was struck by an SUV moments after she exited an Uber vehicle.
According to a Fox 5 San Diego news report, the incident occurred on the night of April 7 in the Gaslamp District of San Diego. Police say the woman’s Uber driver stopped his sedan in the westbound No. 2 lane at 500 Market Street ahead of a Chevy Suburban SUV parked on the north curb. The victim suffered a severe injury as the at-fault vehicle pulled away.
The woman got out of the car from the right rear door, at which point the driver of the SUV pulled out from the curb and struck her. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment of her broken leg. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening. Police don’t believe alcohol or drugs were factors in this collision. The crash is being investigated by the San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division.
It is indeed a relief that the victim was not seriously injured in this collision. We wish her a speedy and complete recovery.
These types of accidents where Uber or other rideshare vehicles may be involved could get rather complicated. In this case, a number of questions must be asked in order to determine fault and liability. Did the Uber driver park the car in a safe place for the woman to make a safe exit? Was the driver of the other vehicle inattentive or reckless when he pulled out from the curb? Was the Uber app still activated or was the ride completed?
In such accidents, depending on the circumstances and facts of the case, a number of parties may be potentially liable. The victim may be able to seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, and pain and suffering.
In these situations, it might be in the victims’ best interests to seek the counsel of an experienced San Diego car accident lawyer as soon as possible. A knowledgeable injury attorney can conduct a thorough investigation and help ensure that the at-fault parties are held liable and that you receive fair compensation for your losses.
