Truck driver charged in 5-car pileup on I-10 – Beaumont Enterprise

A Louisiana man has been charged following a major crash involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 10 Thursday afternoon in Jefferson County.
The Texas Department of Safety said Savilas Francis, 46 of Scott, Louisiana, was driving the 2013 Freightliner that struck five cars in a crash that occurred around 3:45 p.m. near the Hampshire Road exit.
Minor injuries were reported in the crash, which shut down the eastbound lanes of the interstate for about three hours. Francis has been charged with failure to control speed, DPS said.
A preliminary investigation indicated a trooper was working a crash on the interstate and traffic was stalled in the eastbound lanes, a DPS news release said at 5:10 p.m.
“A commercial motor vehicle was traveling east and, for an unknown reason, failed to stop when approaching the crash and struck multiple vehicles,” the release continued.
No further information was provided by press time.
