Large charter plane catches fire after failed takeoff in Houston area; all 21 on board survive – KKTV 11 News

KATY, Texas (KKTV) – A trip to a Major League Baseball game took a nightmarish turn when the plane suffered a series of mishaps upon takeoff, ultimately exploding into flames.
The plane was incinerated; what was left was a mangled pile of metal and debris.
Miraculously, not a single person on board was killed, and only one minor injury was reported.
“This is a good day,” said an official with the Texas Department of Public Safety during a news conference following the incident. “This is a day of celebration for a lot of people.”

The plane rolled through a fence while trying take off from Houston Executive Airport, ending up in a field where it caught on fire. First responders feared the worst as they approached the crash site.
“Once we arrived on scene, of course we observed the plane in the state it was in, engulfed,” the official said.
“And were advised that all individuals on board the plane — all 18 passengers and three crew members — survived.”
WCOEM & WCSO are responding to a plane crash at Houston Executive Airport involving an MD-80 aircraft that was taking off from the Airport heading north. Early reports indicate that all 19 passengers and crew safely exited the aircraft with a report of 1 injury. AVOID THE AREA.
The youngest person on board was 10 years old. Authorities say two people were transported to the hospital, but that none of the injuries were serious.
“The passengers and crew were able to extract themselves, and that’s when the first responders came in to go to work to extinguish the fire. So again, today is a good day for all, not only for the passengers and crew, but for this community and the first responders.”
The flight was Boston-bound. Sister station CBS Houston is reporting the passengers were heading there for the Houston Astros-Boston Red Sox American League Championship Series.
The crash happened in Katy, an outer suburb on the west side of the Houston metro.
